Through the large glass windows, several marked and unmarked police cars could be seen in front of the entrance to the MGH/Charles St station. Last night, the news mentioned that President Obama would be in town for the interfaith memorial for the victims of Monday’s tragedy. Could he be coming to Mass General Hospital?
After getting some work done and seeing a few patients, there was a break in my schedule, so I headed over to my department. On the way, I noticed a line of security vehicles parked in front of the hospital. There was also an increased police presence. A queue of people began to form along the hallway windows facing the front of the building. Sure enough, President Obama was on his way!
I suppose we should have known that the President would not just walk ito the front of the hospital. I love how security just allowed people to stand around in crowds for a few hours. Part of me wanted to walk around outside just to get a glimpse. How often does one have a chance to be so close to the President? But I decided that the reason for his visit was more important than me trying to get a photo. The only thing I got to see were the SWAT vehicles blocking the entrance to the Emergency Room ambulance bays. Some of my colleagues captured video of the President’s motorcade as it passed.
